Clinic Policies
Finding a Family Doctor
Most of our physicians are accepting new patients for ongoing family practice care. To establish care with a family doctor at Sunshine Medical:
- Book an initial consultation appointment (not a walk-in visit) to discuss your medical history with the doctor. No other medical concerns will be addressed at this visit.
- Bring your Manitoba Health Card and any medical records
- Discuss your medical history and ongoing care needs
- You'll be assigned a primary physician for continuity of care
Please call or email to inquire about family doctor availability at your preferred location.
Please keep in mind not all patients will be accepted. Being accepted as a new patient is up to the doctors discretion.
You cannot have 2 family doctors. If you currently have a family doctor, you must choose which doctor would be the best fit as your family physician.
Walk-Ins & Appointments
Weekends are walk in only.
Walk-In Patients: Welcome anytime during clinic hours. No appointment necessary. We serve patients on a first-come, first-served basis. Please keep in mind patients with booked appointments will be seen first. Due to high traffic volumes we may stop taking prior to closing time if we have reached capacity.
Appointments: Can be booked by phone, email, or online. Same-day appointments often available. We will do our best to get you in as close to your appointment time as we can, but do to unforeseen circumstances or emergencies that may not always be possible.
Please arrive 10-15 minutes early for appointments to complete any necessary paperwork.
Wait Times
We strive to keep wait times minimal. Walk-in wait times typically range from 15-45 minutes depending on patient volume.
Please keep in mind wait times are an estimation and we never know exactly how long the wait may be, we will do our best to get patients in to see the doctor in a timely manner. Please be understanding and respectful of clinic staff.
Test & Lab Results
Lab results are typically available within 7-10 business days, depending on the test type. See our FAQ below for more details.
How to Get Results:
- Call your clinic location and book a follow-up appointment to discuss results with your physician. We do not give out test results over the phone. We would recommend if your symptoms remain or worsen to follow up with our office
- Results will only be released to the patient or their authorized representative
If results require urgent attention, we will contact you directly.
Referrals to Specialists
Our physicians can provide referrals to specialists when medically necessary. The referral process:
- Discuss your medical concern with your physician
- If a specialist is needed, your doctor will prepare a referral
- Referral is sent directly to the specialist's office
- You'll be contacted by the specialist's office to schedule an appointment
Wait times for specialist appointments vary based on specialty and urgency. Please keep in mind it can take anywhere between 2 months, or even a year or more to see some specialists. If you have a particular specialist you would like to see please inform staff prior to the referral being sent.
Prescription Renewals
Please book an appointment with your doctor for prescription renewals. Some prescriptions may be able to be filled through a prescription fax from your pharmacy. This is dependent upon the type of prescription and the doctor's discretion.
